The Chamber of Marvão has purchased more than 4,000 kilos of chestnuts from local producers to be consumed at a fair dedicated to this fruit, which takes place over the weekend in the village.

Promoted by the municipality in the Portalegre district, the 40th edition of the Festa do Castanheiro - Feira da Castanha will liven up the Alentejo city, on Saturday and Sunday, with magustos, crafts, gastronomy and music.

Considered the “most emblematic event” in the municipality, the event will have more than 4 thousand kilos of chestnuts ready to be tasted in the three planned magustos, accompanied by wine, also traditional in the region.

In addition to traditional magustos, the event also includes a display of crafts and local products, street entertainment, exhibitions, themed workshops and the beginning of a gastronomic fortnight, the municipality said in a statement.

The inauguration is scheduled for Saturday, at 10 am, informed the municipality.

Entry to the event costs 1.50 euros, but has charitable purposes, as the proceeds go to the Humanitarian Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Marvão.
