KEYSER, W.Va. - The spring meeting of the West Virginia Chapter of The American Chestnut
Foundation will be held Saturday, April 5, from 1-3 p.m. at the Mineral County Technical Center, 981 Harley O. Staggers Sr. Drive, Keyser.
The American Chestnut Foundation is an organization dedicated to the restoration of the once vibrant American chestnut trees, as well as to research breeding and biotechnology practices in order to develop American chestnut trees resistant to the two diseases that all but eradicated their existence, and to educate the public about the tree, its past, and efforts to restore its place in America.
There are 20 state chapters of the American Chestnut Foundation, including West Virginia, Virginia and Maryland.
The West Virginia chapter was established in 2009, and since that time chestnut trees have been planted in 68 sites in 26 of the state’s 55 counties.
Anyone wishing to join the West Virginia chapter may visit tacf.org for further information.
There will be a brief business meeting for board members from 12:30-1 p.m., followed by the regular chapter meeting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at the Tech Center.
Remote access will be available, and the information to do so will be sent by email before the meeting.
